Thanks for the tip on the new masking panel in Photomatix. I was going to post this question on the Photomatix forum but I only find it once I have already opened the thread. No matter, it is an effective tool to have at your disposal. Photo editing software evolves quickly, so it is only a matter of time before I have to consider other raw converters to replace RC. I like the approach to the RAW editing ability of Camera Raw. I think it is about time Adobe make this a native feature.
Yes, I think the feature to add or mask out unwanted areas is a new feature which can help when trying to get the focus just right on your main subject and the surrounding areas are the natural part of the picture. If I have a picture that I want to be clear with the subject, but I don’t like the way the grass looks, I can make a separate layer and mask out that area so the focus is just on the subject and I can adjust the brightness and contrast there to change the overall picture. It can make the picture easier to see and more clear. I think it a good improvement to camera raw.
