I’d love to see ArtCAM sell as a standalone in other European countries where it has quite a successful international presence already. I also think that a stable source for an ArtCAM user base is key in order to develop the software further and keep it alive. Especially the constant changes from Rhino to Maya are often a hurdle for the users, who often have both software installations and many documents/images/vectors in their documents. The same situation happens to many other programs when they add new features and a new major software version to their products – the user base is full of different configurations, which increase support cost.
I already stated that Artcam is not a replacement for Rhino or Matlab, but considering that all those mentioned are in use in the Czech Republic, I’d definitely like to see them with more specialist program features. Currently Artcam has a “frozen” version of the software. If the Czech office finds a new investor for Artcam, they’d probably think about releasing an update to Artcam, so that it would be more like a complete replacement for Rhino or Matlab. Especially considering the new competition with other software based on visual programming – like AutoCAD LT or free3D (who offers support for non-commercial use of their software) it would definitely give a different outlook for Artcam than it currently has.
