Positive Grid BIAS FX 2 Elite does actually suffer from the same problems as some other multieffect DAWs that have become popular, namely a tendency to oversaturate and produce a less than appealing and vibrant sound. In a way, this isnt something that I can personally judge as being an issue with this release, because at its best, Bias FX 2 Elite has a bassy sound, but if youre happy to go down that route, it will have a particular character that isnt shared by other multieffect plug-ins.
In the FX section, the Bias FX 2 Elite includes an algorithim that can be used to generate sounds based upon your choice of amps, cabinets and pickups. The effects list is quite extensive, comprising about 150 individual effects of which maybe half appear to be completely new, and theres no doubt that theyve been created with the best of intentions. The tonal range of the effects is wide, and Positive Grid tells us that a fair amount of them include a selection of pre-built settings for 8 different effect types, each with about 20 or 30 settings. As these effects are only available if you have an amp model chosen at the time you open the plug-in, this feature is very useful if you want to experiment without having to spend too much time trawling the internet.
There are no preset banks available in Bias FX 2 Elite, but there are 20 custom banks available that you can save and reopen at any time. You can also produce preset banks of your own, and although they arent stored locally, Positive Grid tells us that they can be shared online via the Tone Cloud.
While the Bias FX was a really successful addition to the NI product line, it wasnt a full-blown amp emulation environment. However, that is what this download is all about: if you want a pedal-based simulator that will quickly teach you how to apply effects to your guitar, the Bias FX 2 Elite v2.4 is for you!
