The reason that method exists, of course, is to allow you to add a path separator character to the path that will be passed to the operating system.
Note that this is a function that you’d use to manipulate the path portion of an existing QDir. If you are a platform-agnostic coder, and you want to make sure that you have the correct separator every time you use a QString::setPathSeparator(), then you could use an intermediary value that will be passed to QFileInfo::setPath(), and then back again to convert it into the correct Qt string
